Crystal River Fishing Report & Seasonal Catch Updates

Trophy Fish Caught

Recent trips on the water have delivered steady action on trophy-class Redfish and hard-fighting Snook along the shallow grass flats and oyster bars of Crystal River. Anglers aboard Tops Charters have been landing impressive Spotted Seatrout in the deeper creek edges and drift-casting over lush sub-surface vegetation. Captain Richard Delgado tracks real-time tide cycles and water temperatures to position guests directly over feeding schools, routinely putting anglers on prized inshore species. Check our latest Crystal River fishing report to see what is biting right now, and secure your date before the peak tides fill up.

Late Summer Inshore Action: Redfish, Seatrout & Creek Mouth Snook fishing report coverpicture

Crystal River - Citrus, FL Fishing Report on 20th Jul, 2026

The late-summer bite along Florida’s Nature Coast is delivering productive, early-morning action for anglers aboard Tops Charters. As water temperatures peak, Captain Richard Delgado is leveraging early-morning high tides and localized water flow to put guests directly on active feeding schools. From sight-casting on shallow grass flats to drifting live bait near backwater creek edges, inshore species are hitting aggressively before the afternoon heat sets in. Inshore Catch Breakdown: What’s Biting Right Now Redfish on the Oyster Bars Redfish action remains steady across the outer oyster beds and shallow mangrove points. Early morning flood tides are bringing fish right up into the vegetation to feed on crustaceans. Pitching live shrimp or soft plastic jigs near structure has yielded quality slot-sized fish. As the tide falls, schools are dropping off into adjacent 3-to-5-foot contours where slow-retrieved lures are producing consistent strikes. Spotted Seatrout on the Grass Flats Anglers targeting Spotted Seatrout are finding non-stop action over deeper grass beds in 4 to 6 feet of water. Drifting live shrimp under popping corks continues to be the most effective technique for filling the cooler, while soft plastics bounced along the bottom are picking up the larger "gator" trout during lower light conditions. Snook Around Creek Mouths Snook activity stays hot near backcountry creek mouths and shoreline points where moving water concentrates baitfish. Free-lining live pilchards or casting topwater plugs around shaded docks and mangrove overhanging limbs has generated explosive strikes during the first two hours of daylight. Seasonal Tip from Captain Richard Delgado "Water temperature and tide timing are everything right now. Focus your efforts on the first three hours of daylight when water temperatures are cool and fish are actively feeding on the flats. Once the sun gets high, transition to deeper creek bends or structure where fish seek shade and cooler depths." Plan Your Next Crystal River Outing Whether you want to target hard-fighting gamefish on light tackle or enjoy a relaxed day exploring the Nature Coast, Tops Charters supplies all necessary licenses, premium rod-and-reel setups, fresh live bait, and custom catch cleaning. So it's with a heavy heart and a bit of joy, my Express has sold. When I started this venture almost 3 years ago, this was the boat that helped me get my feet wet and allowed me to explore all of what the nature coast had to offer. However, with this boat no longer in my fleet, I am able to fully enjoy the Triton 24LTS and help more people create lasting memories out here. Now is the time to get on the books for spring break, for it's right around the corner!

Plus a few surprise gags. Water temp is just under 70 degrees and the fish are moving back to their normal spots and with spring break around the corner, now's the time to strike.

Santa Fe River - Gilchrist, FL Fishing Report on 25th Jun, 2025 - 3

Been off the water for a little due to a nice family trip up north but today was a great day to be on the water. Had Todd on the boat and right off the bat he hooked into two nice reds. After the red bite cooled off we went a few miles out and had a blast. Boated over a dozen sand and spotted trout, a few grunts, and two baby sharks. However, the real fun was when we did hook onto a very nice 4’ shark, though it only gave us a few minutes of play time before it broke off. All and all, Todd had a great time and he should have some nice fish tacos tonight. Open most of this week and next week if anyone wants to get some time doing what our beautiful state has to offer.

Sorry for the delay in posting after the close out of the tournement. On Sunday we did land two more Cobia, a bunch of gags and three absolute mangrove snapper slabs (so no pics, camera man is slacking on getting me photos). One of the two Cobia’s that we landed did put us in 2nd place around 2:45 when got in, but just ten minutes before 4:00, we had gotten bumped to 4th. I had to leave early so didn’t see the final tally. See you all out there, tight lines.... Team: Mark Nenadic (team captain) Austin Ellis Robbie Ellis Richard Delgado
